Membership at Highlands UMC
At Highlands, becoming a member is about belonging — to God, to community, and to a shared vision of justice, compassion, and joy. Membership is open to anyone who seeks to follow Jesus in the way of love. You do not need perfect beliefs, and you do not need to be baptized first (we can arrange baptism if desired).

Most people join during Sunday worship, where the congregation promises to surround you with support and prayer. Membership is not required to participate fully in church life, but it can be a meaningful spiritual step: a way of saying, “This is where I will grow and serve.”

If you’re curious or ready to explore membership, we invite you to fill out the inquiry form below.

Why Membership Matters
Membership is a spiritual practice of belonging.
In a world where many people feel disconnected or overwhelmed, choosing membership is a way of rooting yourself in a community committed to love, justice, and mutual care.
It is a public “yes” to walking this journey with others, trusting that faith is something we grow together.
Membership strengthens the community.
When people commit to a shared life, the church becomes more resilient.
Members help shape the mission, discern God’s call, and carry the work forward — from worship and pastoral care to justice ministries and community partnerships.
Your presence and voice truly matter.

Membership provides shared accountability and support.
It gives you a place where your joys and sorrows are held, where you are encouraged to grow spiritually, and where you can offer your gifts in ways that bless others.
As members, we make promises to one another to show up, to listen, to forgive, and to work for the common good.

Membership expresses our collective hope.
Joining a church affirms that you believe in the possibility of a different kind of world — one shaped by compassion, hospitality, courage, and grace.
Your commitment strengthens our capacity to live out that hope here and now.
Membership matters because you matter.
Your story, your questions, your faith, your gifts — they shape who we are becoming as a church. Membership names and honors that truth.
