HIGHLANDS UMC PARENTS' DAY OUT NEWSLETTER

April 2011

"Truly wonderful the mind of a child is."

 - YODA, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

The 2010-2011 session of PDO has been filled with wonderful experiences as we helped your children learn about the world they live in. Each day we witness new developments in your child’s knowledge and expressions of their joy of life! The activities for May will review all of the occupations we studied this year in addition to learning the colors of the rainbow.

We are starting to plan the summer session and develop the calendar for 2011-2012. The final day of PDO will be May 26, 2011, when we will have a last day potluck for all the children and their family from 11:30 to 12:30. I hope that everyone will be able to join this celebration.

After a weeklong spring break, the dino-mite summer session will begin the week of June 6, 2011.  Can you guess the theme? The summer session will run for eight weeks with 4th of July week off.  The last day of the summer session will be August 4, 2011.

Beginning May 1st and throughout the month, Highland’s UMC will be collecting items for United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) layette kits in honor of Mother's Day. UMCOR is a prominent worldwide emergency relief organization that reaches worldwide to provide relief in five core areas: Hunger, Health, Refugees, Emergencies, and Relief Supplies. Since 1940, UMCOR has served people in almost 100 countries around the world. The organization is designed such that 100% of all donations are channeled directly to the earmarked project or relief effort. This would be a wonderful opportunity to teach your child about sharing and caring. Go to UMCOR's website to check out the details or look for the information on the PDO bulletin board.
