Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors
MissionsThe outreach programs of Highlands include our commitment to the struggle in Darfur, helping feed the hungry through Denver Urban Ministries, Heifer Project, Warren Village and many other programs. If you have a heart for helping others, the Missions committee welcomes you. For more information, contact the church to leave a message for Missions Committee Chair, Abbie Spengler. We are always looking for new members with a passion for serving those in need!
Each month our church is asked to bring canned and boxed foods for delivery to DenUM to help feed the homeless and needy of our community. November's need is beans.
Coming Soon:
Help us make the holidays brighter for families in need through our Missions Holiday Projects.
Recent projects:
Saturday, October 15: Northwest Denver CROPWalk. Highlands UMC hosted the walk this year - thanks for helping feed the hungry in our community and around the world!
Sunday, September 18: Back-to-School Ice Cream Social. The ice cream sundaes you enjoyed helped buy school supplies for kids in need!
This spring we collected items for 32 UMCOR layette kits in honor of Mother's Day.
Lynne Butler, Executive Director of Metro CareRing presented a "mission moment" and the children's message during worship on May 22nd. She also showed a video and provided additional information about Metro CareRing during coffee hour. On May 31st, twenty-seven people from HUMC, including eight children and teens, volunteered at Metro CareRing. They sorted donations, portioned out bulk items, sat in on client casework, helped clients pick out nutritious produce and bread, and filled grocery orders.
2010 Mission Trip
Highlands UMC’s first adult mission trip took place June 6-12, 2010. We worked with Tree of Life Ministries on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. We hope to plan regular mission trips in coming years, but meanwhile we are also committed to serving those in need in our own city.
